Papers of Edith Harrhy. 1902-1994.

The first group of papers consists of photographs, an autograph book, student reports from Guildhall, and two scrapbooks containing cuttings, programs, musical scores and some letters, including one from Peter Dawson. The second consignment is mainly musical scores, including the operas Alaya, The jolly friar, the plays David and Myfanwy, Perhaps one day, and published works such as Some Australian songs for children and Four songs of Australia. There was also some correspondence with William F. Morriss and 6 discs. Also included is a manuscript titled Edith Harrhy musician extraordinaire: a personal memoir by her daughter, Honor Coutts.

Edith Harrhy was a singer, musician, composer and music teacher. Born in London of Welsh descent, she studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London. After her marriage to W.C. Beckx Daly, she settled in Australia. She collaborated during her career with such writers and singers as William F. Morriss, Charles H. Souter, Peter Dawson and Walter Kirby.
